    Description WARTIME KNIGHTS CROSS WINNER PORTRAIT PHOTO (NOT A POSTCARD) – OBERST SCHÜNEMANN Original wartime portrait photo – 9x13cm Otto Schünemann (1891–1944) was a German general in Second World War, recognized for his leadership and bravery. Career Highlights: Commanded Infanterie-Regiment 184 as an Oberst, earning the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on 20 December 1941. Later commanded the 337th Infantry Division as a Generalleutnant, receiving the Oak Leaves to his Knight’s Cross on 28 November 1943. Awarded the Clasp to the Iron Cross (2nd Class, May 1940; 1st Class, June 1940) and the German Cross in Gold in February 1943. Death: Killed on 29 June 1944 near Mogilev during the Soviet Operation Bagration by an air attack on the Belynitschi-Beresino road. Schünemann was noted for his frontline leadership and was among the senior German commanders lost during the major Soviet summer offensive of 1944.
