    Description   WARTIME KNIGHTS CROSS PORTRAIT PHOTO & SIGNATURE – MANFRED SCHWARZ – PANZERJÄGER ABTEILUNG 10 Wartime portrait photo & signature. Approximately 9x13cm. Period signed image of Knight’s Cross recipient Manfred Schwarz. The portrait is both hand-signed and addressed to the recipient by Schwarz! Manfred Schwarz served as an officer in the German Heer (Army) during the Second World War and was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross for battlefield leadership and anti-tank actions. Awarded on:  August 25th, 1941 On the afternoon of the 06.07.1941 the III./Infanterie-Regiment 20 (mot) entered into the city of Shlobin alongside the Panzers of the Panzer-Regiment 6. During this attack the Bataillon was put under heavy pressure by a Soviet tank platoon consisting of 4 multi-turreted tanks (either T-28s or T-35s). However in the course of the battle these tanks were all knocked out after they’d each received several direct hits from Leutnant Schwarz of the Pz.Jg.Abt. 10. Leutnant Schwarz was later awarded the Knight’s Cross in recognition of this feat. Background & Career: Served with Panzerjäger-Abteilung 10 (anti-tank battalion) of the 10th Infantry Division (motorized). Held the rank of Leutnant at the time of his Knight’s Cross award, later rising to Hauptmann der Reserve (Captain of the Reserves). Commanded the 1. Kompanie of Panzerjäger-Abteilung 10. Combat Record: Distinguished himself in combat through the destruction of multiple enemy tanks during a single engagement. Credited with knocking out several enemy armored vehicles through direct hits, an action that led directly to the award of the Knight’s Cross. Awards & Recognition: Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (awarded 25 August 1941) German Cross in Gold Iron Cross (2nd Class & 1st Class) Postwar Life: Details of his postwar life remain largely undocumented. Retired as Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant Colonel) in 1967.
